The Optics Ready Stealth series of sights from Night Fision is a solution for shooters who are using pistol mounted red dot optics. Shooting with a pistol mounted red dot creates a set of unique considerations for the end user. In the article below, we will explain some of those specific considerations and how the design methodology will differ from sights like our Standard Height product line.

Co-witness Capability:

Unlike most factory-installed sights that are designed to be used independently of any optic, the Optics Ready Stealth series is specifically designed to co-witness with pistol-mounted red dot sights. Co-witnessing allows shooters to simultaneously see both the red dot from their optic and the iron sights, providing redundancy and flexibility in aiming, especially in case of optic failure or battery depletion.

Taller Sight Height:

The Optics Ready Stealth sights are taller than standard factory sights to achieve the desired lower 1/3 or lower 1/5 co-witness with the red dot sight. This increased height ensures that the iron sights are tall enough visible in the lower portion of the optic window. Night Fision specifically designs our Optics Ready Stealth line to be tall enough to achieve a lower 1/3rd or lower 1/5th co-witness, limiting how much the iron sights obstruct the red dot sight picture.

Patterning and Point of Impact: When using taller iron sights like those in the Optics Ready Stealth series, shooters need to be mindful of how the increased sight height may affect the firearm's point of aim versus point of impact. While installing taller sights does not directly alter the trajectory of the bullet itself, it does affect the point at which the trajectory of the bullet and the alignment of the sights intersect. As they are taller than standard height sights and therefore further away for the bore axis, they may potentially cause an impact higher or lower relative to the point of aim at different distances. Therefore, shooters should conduct thorough patterning sessions to understand how their specific setup performs and to make any necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy.

Consideration for Optic Compatibility: Consumers should also consider the compatibility of the Optics Ready Stealth sights with their specific red dot optic models. While these sights are designed to co-witness with most pistol-mounted red dot sights, variations in optic height and mounting systems may require additional adjustments or compatibility checks to achieve optimal performance.
